Marks and Thoughts: Notes to a History of the Thought of the Earth

The book Marks and Thoughts: Notes to a History of the Thought of the Earth presents an interdisciplinary path of reflections on thought, its types and modes. An excellent introduction to the world of thought, constituting both a field of historical and philosophical reflections for readers from all areas of knowledge, and a pedagogical research tool for Earth's new thinkers.

The reflections start from the marks of thought, that is, the various types of records left by humans since their emergence until the present day. From the first records of magical thought to the systems of scientific thought, in this book the reader will find contemporary explanations and reflections on the traits that distinguish the human species from other species and the types of thought.

The different concepts involved in the sphere of thought are presented, analyzed and discussed, such as reason, intellect, imagination, spirit and other related terms. The text recovers and analyzes the ways in which thought has been defined and studied over time, allowing the reader to follow various theories about thought, including the philosophical tradition from Anaxagoras to the present day, with summaries of different approaches to thought.

By analyzing the nature of history and geography, the book relativizes the notion that divides the Earth into East and West as a valid category for the study of thought. In its place, a triune category called thought-space-time is proposed as an effective way of approaching the manifestations of thought throughout its history up to the present day.

The present method for a History of Thought on Earth presents a typology of eight axiomatic modes of thought, called magical, initiatic, ciphered, mythical, speculative, theological, mystical and scientific thought. Based on reflections on each of them, their principles and modes of manifestation are shown.

The notion of thought is what, in the words of humans themselves, would have differentiated them from other species in Nature and, in this sense, its traces can be found before writing, in stone sculptures, cave paintings, hunting artifacts, counting marks on animal bones and, nowadays, artifacts traveling through space, going beyond the limits of planet Earth. We propose to show and reflect on part of this heritage of the Earth, left by the various cultures until now.
